Performance Tool for Dropping File
I am looking for performance/stress tool (open source tool) for the following requirement. It would be helpful if anyone suggest me the right tool to test the below scenarios.
The tool should drop the file into the pre-configured location. Say for eg, I have an xml file "test.xml" that should be dropped into particular location ( for eg., c:\test\performance\) with certain interval like 1 document per seconds or 2 document per seconds. Here I can increase the throughput based on the timing.
The listener will automatically take those files from particular location
Well, I could not find the exact tool while surfing in internet but I came to know it can be done using batch script. Hence I developed the batch scripts and files are dropped successfully. However, there is a problem to find out performance statistics.
I am looking for tool like jmeter or SOAP-UI that shows performance statistics (Total CPU usage, throughput, response..etc) but the above requirement cannot be done with Jmeter or SOAP-UI.
Can anyone please let me know the right tool to achieve this testing?
Re: Performance Tool for Dropping File
You are not going to get record and replay on anything of this sort involving an SMB or CIFS file drop. But you can certainly program solutions quite easily.
Several years ago for a client we built a File System performance test benchmark which allowed the client to test the effects of relocating NAS devices in their infrastructure. The solution set took a root directory and then proceeded to create, copy, move and delete files on the root directory filesystem. The solution we built on top of LoadRunner, which the client already owned, but it could have just as easily been built using SilkPerformer, QALoad or JMETER.
This is a programmatic solution which requires programming skills in the file management space for the management of files. If you have the skills and you have an open solution where you can deploy those skills then you should have a path to a solution.
Note: Programming skills in the language of your chosen tool for performance testing is considered a foundation skill class. This skill should be at a refined high level before you ever approach your use within a performance testing tool.
