we want to test the performance of our peer to peer application
please any one tell how to start doin it or also recommendation of performance tool both freeware and licensed which will suite to our needed.
ok.. if you are using straight tcp, then that rules out all of the "web performance" tools (like OpenSTA). I know a lot of commercial tools have API's for working directly with sockets... not sure which open source tools also support that level.
hmm.. if it is a P2P application, I assume it will interact heavily with multiple peers in parallel similar to a torrent software. In that case, we may not be able to use the regular socket protocols available in the commercial load testing tools. Even if we do that, it will be inaccurate and inefficient! I would prefer custom test harness by developing stubs to replace the actual client in order to emulate the workload. That would require access to the source code and a bit more programming language than required!
