    Concurrent Users

    Hi,

Can anyone tell what should be the server configuration for Apache and Database Server if they need to support 25000 concurrent Users?

The Databse being talked about is Oracle.

Is it possible to have this many concurrent users without clustering Apache?

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Concurrent Users

It seems they have some documentation. If using version 2.2 - try this.
    http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/

<the same docs exist for other versions>

You might also find information here:

There are no static values for server configurations. Server configurations are not a periodic-table or a logarithm table to have fixed configuration to N number of users.

Increasing number of threads may serve as many requests it can, but limited to physical-memory.

Enabling Async I/O to reduce I/O wait may not improve the performance.

Though you have 65 GB of RAM you can't set beyond the max limit of -Xmx value.

Do an e2e analysis. Mind the hardware configuration as well.

In a forum Tom-Kyte says, 99% CPU doesn't mean DB Server is performing bad, or 25% CPU doesn't mean DB server is performing good.

    Ferdie, please explain...

    "no static values"

In the context of an Apache server, are not configuration settings static?

Regarding what Tom-Kye says, how does that fit into this topic? What does that mean to the original poster?

    Thanks

I suspect "no static values" here means the same as "no magic numbers" or "no silver bullets".

    Re: Concurrent Users

    Hi Jake,

Only thru performance engineering/performance tuning you could arrive at an optimal value for an application.

There are no standard/constant/static server configuration values for 25000 users or 250 users. That's is what i meant.

Sorry, if the word "static" was wrongly used. I meant whatever Joe has meant. "No magic numbers"

That's my suggestion to the user, to not to depend on values in any document. Because those values may not fit into his requirement. If a documents says 200 threads is an optimal value, that may not drive the application performance for 25000 users.

    Re: Concurrent Users

Thanks Ferdie! I agree with both of the above clarifications - in context. Yes, it is important understand that default configurations may need to change to something other than what the architects had in mind when default values were established.
