I have been assigned to perform a loadtest on a website with 1000Vusers,before starting what care should i take i mean what should be the system configuaration on which i am performing the loadtest so that i can perform the load test without crashing the system.
THE TOOL I AM USING IS LOADRUNNER,AND I AM USING IT ON TEST SERVER(QA).
One question--how close is the configuration of the system you'll be testing to the production configuration? If it's pretty close and your 1,000 VU user scenarios are correct, you should not take any precautions (assuming you're not testing in production). One of the side benefits/drawbacks is that a load test might bring down a system. Much, much better to do this in test than to let it happen in production. The goal of most load tests is to ensure that the system can handle the load and, if it can't, to identify the bottleneck(s).
first u do the load test up to max load size with ur server and then u can scale up the application like with this configuration it will take this much load and if i add more configuration it will take this much load like that.
to scale up the application u can use the following formu, with this u can say that this is the server config i need to support this may users.
To Calculating TCA
CPU utilization * number of CPUs * speed of CPU (in MHz) / ASP requests per second
if the server peaks out with browse results of 11.50 ASP (or .net or any web) requests/second with CPU utilization of 84.10 %. The cost per ASP page is then: 84.10% * 2 * 400 / 11.50 = 58.50 MCycles
