    Siebel Testing

    Hi,

I am doing performance testing using Compuware's tool QALoad. Now i am asked to do the same for one siebel application and it is in planning stage. Can any one tell me whether we require any additional requirements for testing siebel application.

    Thanks
    Viji

    Re: Siebel Testing

The performance testing requirements usually come from your customer. That is who you should work with. You collaborate with them to define objectives for each performance test. From those objectives, you ascertain the requirements and then use the tool to meet those requirements. The fact that Seibel is involved has little if anything to do with the performance test objectives/requirements (aside from the Seibel-related tool requirements).

    Re: Siebel Testing

Not to knock Siebel (although I did just get fired because they took over a company I worked for!) but I have worked with them in the past, with very little co-operation.

Like any dev team they don't like to be told that thier application is slooooow!

I used Rational on this particular project, and found that thier zip code finding software tended to slow things down considerably, so that might be something to consider if that's part of the application you are testing.

This was several years ago now, and at that time they refused to admit this was causing the problem (though when this was turned off the performance was great) so maybe it' been fixed now?

    Re: Siebel Testing

    Hi jpensyl,

Thanks for your information. Actually i meant the requirement here is Hardware/software. The other requirements like no of users, load scenario, test timings etc will be supplied by the custonmer. My next doubt is do we need prior experience to test siebel application. I believe that once we capture we would come to know how far the tool supports and what other changes to be done with the tool settigns/codings etc. But i am not sure whether there is any specific feature in siebel applications that cannot be supported by load testing tools. I just want to know the answer for these kind of queries.

    Thanks
    Viji

    Hi Andystaves,

Thanks for sharing your experience. But do you mean that Performance of siebel applications will always to slow compared to othr applications.

Also can you tell me, In general what protocols are used for this kind of applications.

    Thanks

    Re: Siebel Testing

    Hi Vij,

No, I am not saying this at all, there is no way to determine whether any particular system is worse than another because that entirely depends on the system you are testing.

The most common protocol that I used was the SQL one, but this may not reflect what you are doing.

    Re: Siebel Testing -Palm Sync

Has anyone recently Load tested against the syncing of Siebel Palm? Did you have any success and what is the tool you used? On a scale of 1-10 how difficult was it to script using this tool/protocol?

    Re: Siebel Testing -Palm Sync

So couple of comments on testing siebel - first thought, it's not easy :-)

A second thought is that unless you are using a tool that is certified with Siebel and can make use of their correlation library then you are in for a lot of manual work. Things like the Sieble rowID and Siebel sessions all have to be correlated (amoung other things) when doing full transactions. Simulating Palm handhelds can be equally challenging but the good news from what I have seen and done is that it uses an http request to synch. Basically Palm uses ActiveSynch to the desktop but then the http requests to the Siebel server looks something like:

    GET: /siaservicece_enu/start.swe?SWEExtSource=siebelpda&SWEExtCmd=Set Filters&Filters=Contact|1-1D3I%7eActionSHCE|1-1D3B%7eSHCE%20Action%20Sync|1-1D42%7eCAT%20Issues|%7eFINCORP%20Account|1-1D3Y%7eSHCE%20Asset%20Management|1-1D47%7eCAT%20DS%20List|1-1D3G&TimeStamp=1184776719 HTTP/1.1
    User-Agent: Siebel Handheld Client
    Host: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    Cookie: _sn=uD5Bq55.8YqWYWGPWVFFCpZTZi-YL0FpI-iLr6DZSTM_
    connection: close

There are more requests than this but it give you a basic idea of what the format of the requests have to look like.

    Re: Siebel Testing -Palm Sync

Why, oh why, are we digging up 3 year old posts??? I think the FAQ mentions that this is a no-no.
