Performance of QAForums

Has anyone ever performance tested QAForums???

I have noticed that pages take a considerable time to load... Has anyone else noticed this?

(Just being curious here.)

Re: Performance of QAForums

I haven't really worried about it since the forums are free. It would be up to AJ and his team to do this or contract it out.

It would be illegal to just start running load against someone elses site without their permission. (essentially your doing a DoS attack)

I never meant to suggest that someone should haul-off and start running load against QAForums!

I guess I should have asked if the QAForums people have ever perf tested their own site.

Re: Performance of QAForums

Performance of the forum has not been stellar for quite some time. It does get pounded by a lot of people during the day though. What I found what helped is not choosing an avatar and choosing "Hide Avatars of Other Users" in your profile set up.

Personally I find the performance barely adequate, I would post/read more if it was better though. Sometimes I simply cannot be bothered waiting.

Hi Roland, I think we need to run this site through the extreme web analyzer

www.feiste.com
In case anyone else is interested in a free web analyzer modeling tool.
(warning the tool is not for beginners)

I would be interested to find out what the set up is of this site, maybe we performance experts can give AJ some advise.

My first guess would be the database.
I don't know what they are using, but it might need tuned up by running stats, adding an index, or something similar.

Re: Performance of QAForums

According to the website of the builder of the forum software, there is no database it is flat files. That does not sound right to me though.

Server is Linux Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) PHP/4.2.3
UBB is Perl but can also be in PHP.

I know that PHP has some scaling problems when run on one server.

There is a lot of graphical info on the site as well. Might be useful to have that served from a different site.
