Proxy Sniffer - load test tool
Has anyone head of this tool called: Proxy Sniffer (http://www.proxy-sniffer.com/)?
I had never heard about it before. It is a Java based load test tool that records proxy traffic to model java based load tests for you.
They offer a free (as in price not as in open code) version and it looks like it runs on multiple platforms.
I will post some info once I give it a try, but I was curious if people have used it.
Re: Proxy Sniffer - load test tool
I just played with the free version a bit and I'm pretty impressed!
so basically this is a web based tool that comes with an integrated web/proxy server. You record a web browing session and it creates a java class for you (which uses the java.io classes of the Java API). You can then tweak the class file to customize or parameterize your test. From there, you compile the class and run it within the test runner (this is all menu driven from their web interface). You can set runtime parameters (number of users/threads, iterations, etc) and monitor the tests as they run. It then graphs test output and lets you analyze results against other results you have saved.
Its a pretty cool tool.
the Free version looks like it is limited to 40 users (which is fine because I doubt the JVM on a single machine scales to much more).. It also can not do SSL (although I don't see why you couldn't edit the Java classes it creates to include SSL yourself).. but you get that along with distributed/remote execution in the professional addition.
now if only the code was open source!
