I am using e-tester. I am trying to record an application in which a pop-up opens (external window). In this window, I have a button which opens one more window (this gets listed as HTML Dialog in the e-tester).
When I playback the script, the second window does not open.
Do you have eTester set to automatically dismiss pop up windows in the options?
Is any of this scripted using Custom Tests or Visiual script, or is it all "record playback"?
Do you have "PageMatchCheck" set to false in your global settings?
I ask this last one because many web applications generate the title of the popup window as it is loaded and therefore eTester may be looking for one page title and not finding your new one. If this is set to false then eTester "should" ignore things like the page title and therefore be able to find the button to click to launch the second window.
I have only encountered one issue with eTester that wasn't solvable with a little bit of mucking around..
"Not every solution was derived to address an obvious problem" - Me (quite recently indeed)
Yup this is kind of confusing. The html dialog sounds like just another external html window that may or may not be labeled correctly. The time out could be as Martin stated, resulting from an action not taken on play back or could be a result of script firing when the window is loading. Either way you will need to do a little bit of digging to see what is supposed to happen as compared to what is actually happening. One tool that I recently discovered in the 6.6 build is the play back in highlight mode. This will help you see what e-Tester is trying to do on playback.
If all the actions are correct and there is still a time out issue try looking at the source of the page to see if any onload event handlers could be playing a part. Empirix has a couple of settings that may help here. They exact syntax escapes me at the moment but I know there are some kbase articles on them.
