Existence/Resource Validation Test
What is the difference between Resource Validation test and the Existence test that are done in eTester?
Isnt Resource validation test a subset of Existence test ?
As per my understanding, Resource Validation test only compares the existence of images, links etc where as the scope of existence test is wider as it tests the existence of-
Java Applets etc.
Please comment and confirm my understanding.
Re: Existence/Resource Validation Test
Well, as I understand things, it is a little bit different. Resource validation is actually going out and making an http request for a specific resource (link, image, frame ... etc.). This "validates" that the application can serve back an resource, that it is there and available. The standard e-tester playback (non resource validation) test is checking to see if the link, image ... etc. is there on the page sent back by the server.
I guess what I am saying is that one checks to see if the reference resource exists on the server and the other checks to see if an element exists on the page during playback.
Somebody correct me if I am wrong here but that is my understanding ...
