    Monitoring Websphere Clusters

    Hi all,

We have a problem on our latest project. We need to monitor stats on websphere clusters and the latest version of E-load (8.1) can not do this due to bugs in the tool.

I have developed a work around using the perfservlet on the cluster, and virtual agents.

There is one VA that uses curl to grab the perfservlet stats in the form of an XML doc, it then stores this in a file on the controllers hard disk.

Now each stat requires its own VA, this will run an XML/XSL parser to grab the relevant stat, and return that stat in between <result>...</result> tags, to the command line, which the Regexp in the VA will then parse to grab the stat.

Now, the problem is that even when set to 15 sec period for the stats in e-load, the data only updates once a minute, and some times no info at all is being returned (returns 0).

Does anyone know of any other ways to get these stats using e-load? or maybe have any ideas as to what might be wrong with my work around?

any help at all would be great

    cheers

    Paul

    <font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">Paul,

I assume you mean version 8.01 (not 8.1)?

What field did you set to 15 sec? Was it the Collection Interval for the particular Monitor?

When you say the data only updates once a minute, do you mean it's updated in the (realtime) Run Graphs once a minute?

In the Reporting Options, there are separate fields to control
    - how often data is collected
    - how often the UI is refreshed
    - how often the Graphs are refreshed

    Perhaps you could check these?

    Re: Monitoring Websphere Clusters

    hi joe,

i have been talking with Empirix and after a fashion they have sent me a new build that including a working set of monitors for Websphere clusters.

the build is 8.01.0271 although it has not been QA'd so its not for general use, but if anyone else is having trouble i recommend asking for this build as it seems to work ok, it discovers the stats available at least, i have yet to see how good it is during a heavy load test.

    cheers

    Paul
