Use of declaring variables in OpenSTA tool.

Our company uses OpenSTA tool to conduct Load Testing for web applications since past 1 month.

We virtually create the users while creating a Test and run them...and of course we get the results and graphs are shown.

My doubt is...after the script is generated, there is an option to declare the variables like user1, user2, user3, etc. I think declaring variables is nothing but increasing the load on the page. Since there is an option to increase the virtual users automatically while creating a Test, what is the use of declaring variables?

Re: Use of declaring variables in OpenSTA tool.

Some Web sites require scripts to be modified and variables to be used - if yours doesn't then don't worry about it.

How you use OpenSTAs SCL scripting language is entirely down to you - the OpenSTA tools do nothing to stop you creating Scripts/Tests with results that are completely bogus, or very relevant to your testing goals. Basically, OpenSTA is just a toolset to help you Test, you are still required to use your skill and judgement to produce good Tests and Results.
