I am testing a web application for load and performance testing which is present on LAN in my company . I am using OpenSTA 1.4.2 and the application which i am testing is written in VB script and COM. It uses IIS as a webserver. Now the problem is, i had recorded the scripts for this application and it showed drop of 2 users while testing for 25 virtual users. Then due to a virus my machine had to be formatted and unfortunately i forgot to take the backup of my OpenSTA scripts. So i lost OpenSTA as well as the scripts. So now when i have reinstalled OpenSTA, the script works just fine with no drop of users while testing for 25 virtual users. I am testing the application in the same environment as it was tested before...but still i am not getting the drop of 2 users. Is this possible in OpenSTA? Also when i do the same process on other machines, the response time is changing for every machine!! Is this possible? I am not able to find the root cause of this problem. Who is the culprit? Is it OpenSTA, my web application or network problem? please reply .....Thanks..waiting for ur replies guys n gals!! take care ..bye
"it showed drop of 2 users while testing for 25 virtual users"
do you mean that OpenSTA launched only 23 vu when the setting was for 25 vu, or is it that out of 25 vu 2 vu failed and only 23 went through the whole transaction.
if you run the test from different locations on network, you are bound to get variations in the response times. Variation depends on where you are connecting your test machine on the network, how many routers/switches are there, also on network usage.

If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail.
Yes, out of 25 vu 2 vu failed and only 23 went through the whole transaction...but now no users are dropping till 200 VU...after formatting the drive...and after recording and playing the script in the same test environment..isnt this strange?
Can u tell me, how to enter and create test and call the test by using OpenSTA, also explain me about the collectors and how to use it in the test.
Since I am new to this, I dont know, how to use this tool.
