I've been having all sorts of problems with OpenSTA. It just doesnt seem to work the way it should. Which version is more stable, 1.4.1 or 1.4.2? I have XP and IE6.
what problems are you having? I have had similar (good) results with both versions.
I can't create collectors.
I can't multiple test groups to execute at once.
After you hit the execute button, you are forced to hit all these little start buttons.
The first one always works (albeit rather slowly).
Upon clicking the second start button the program hangs.
You can close the Test child window and reopen the test through the navigation at the left, and interestingly, both tests groups *appear* to be running.
If you try to start another test group you end up going through the same process as before (program hangs etc.) but you are eventually able to get all of the test groups running.
While a test is supposedly running, you can click on the Monitoring tab and view all sorts of different information, however more often than not, none of those charts or graphs will load at all.
The VUs graph usually does load however i strongly suspect that it is displaying data that is just wrong. For example, I'll start a test and watch as the number of active VUs goes up according to the settings I've prescribed. Then I'll use NT performance so monitor what's happening on the server. The expected load is experienced for some time and then it inexplicably drops off. At the same time, the Commander indicates that the test is still running and that the number of VUs is still at a maximum.
Upon the completion of a test results are usually not generated.
1.4.2 is more stable - at least, it contains bug fixes over 1.4.1 and has proved to be no less unstable.
It sounds like some of the issues you are having are known bugs - have you checked the FAQ and the bug list?
