Functional Test?

Hi to everybody!

My question is: could I do functional test with OpenSTA?

If so I'll save a great amount of money

Thanks for your comments!

Re: Functional Test?

the answer is yes and no..

OpenSTA is a load testing tool that works at the http protocol level. Therefore for testing GUI functionality, it is useless.

However, you can capture data from http responses and use that for verifications. In that manner you can indirectly do functional testing of your web content and middleware/database tiers.

it is definitely not what OpenSTA is designed for and u can probably find other free tools better suited for the job.

how would you capture the response and use it to verify responses. i think that load testing is useless if you can't verify that the information coming back from your server, under heavy load, is not corrupted due to threading, deadlock, lack of synchronization, etc...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">Let's assume that I have to do a functional testing of GUIless webservices (SOAP or simple XML POST over HTTP).

I believe that OpenSTA would be adequate.
Could you suggest a better tool for this task?

Just try it - it's a completely free tool

OpenSTA can replay HTTP in a scripted fashion, a certain level of functional type testing is possible. There may be better tools out there for the job but OpenSTA might be good enough and easiest enough for you to use, it's certainly going to be among the cheapest.
