Hi I'm new to Open STA, my budget for Rational 50 Pooled Virtual Tester Pack hasn't come through and not sure if it will be. Anyway I couldn't find any documentation on Open STA on how to read/analyse the results (properly) that are displayed by commander. For instance the timer List, Timer Values v Elapsed Time, ... Does anyone has any documentation on that ?
From the tool , most of the tools allow to insert timers to measure the response time for your transaction.
Your transaction may be single page , a single GET URL request or a POST request or anything in your scenario.
For a single scenario you may have different timers to measure response times of different steps/transactions.
After a test run you have :
1. Duration of test run
2. Total num.of Transactions performed in test run.
3. Number of requests sent to the server.
4. Also the total weights/Data received(Mb or Kb ) from the server.
Now A simple calculation :
Transactions / sec = Total num of Transactions / Test duration
Req.served /sec = Total Num.of Req.sent/Test duration.
Data Transferred /Sec ( or Bytes received /sec)= Total MB received / Test duration.
Note : these calculations are done with reference of client side (tool end )
Run the scenarios with varying/increasing number of users.
Cal. these parameters , plot the graphs of above cal. parameters (also the response times ) vs Load (num. of users )
You should be able to now analyse the performance of your application now.
Try it out now yourself.
