I actually have seen some similar things in my recent recordings. In the most recent case I clicked the record button in the script modeler and everything in the toolbar greyed out and the browser did not pop up to start recording. Not sure if this is exactly what you're seeing, but here's what I did.
To fix it I went through the following steps:
-Exit STA Commander, Stop the name server and restart - didn't help
-Exit STA Commander, Shutdown the name server and restart - didn't help
-Exit STA Commander, reboot box name server is running on - worked
From my very limited use of the product so far, if there are problems with recording it's usually the name server. Either a wrong configuration or something internally gets corrupt. Do a google search on the specifics of your problem and you'll probably find better explanations than I can give.
