I am testing a Windows application developed in .NET framework. When user start this application, it mounts a virtual drive in the system and downloads the folders and files under it from the server. The application uses web services.
The problem is, the application crashes(Blue Screen of Death)and the system get restarted. But, When I tried again to reproduce the bug by following the same steps, the application do not crash. This is not consistent.
Can any body help me in reproducing these Crashes. What are the points should be given importance , when again I tried to Reproduce the this crashing issue.
Are there any event/error logs generated that might help pinpoint the problem? Could the developer add or enable debug logs for the application? Even if the app crashes the system, debug logs would show you how far it made it through the process. If it crashes while copying files, there may be a network timeout issue. If the failure involves the web service, it may be due to an invalid response.
What OS are you testing on? If you are using Win2K or XP, a system crash might be caused by unmanaged code (an ActiveX for example.) One of your developers might be able to help track down the issue.
Also, is this happening only on one box, or several systems? If only one box has this problem, you might have an issue with the CPU or RAM. You might run a diagnostic to see if there are any hardware issues.
