    Interoperability Testing

    Hi All,

Can any body help me about what is IOP(Interoperability)Testing ,
Is this like OS compatibility or browser compatibility testing which we perform on Desktop applications?

And how to Test the Interoperability of the mobile applications,if any body provides at least one example on IOP Testing it will be great help for me.

    Re: Interoperability Testing

    Hi,

Usually, IOT (InterOp Testing) is verification of how different platforms interact one with another.
For example, in Video Conferencing you might want to test your Networking product such as MCU or Media GW vs End-points of other vendors. Or in Networking you might want to test what happens if you use Nortel equipment with Cisco in the same environment.

    Hope this helps,
    The Leprechaun.

    Re: Interoperability Testing

    Hi,

Normally Interoperability testing in mobile applications means testing the application software with different available mobile phones and the behaviour should be same across all the devices.

For example, if a headset application is generated and needs to test interoperabilty, it should work with Nokia/Samsung/Motorola.

Please correct me if anything wrong.

    Regards,
    Neel.

    Re: Interoperability Testing

As is so often seen on these forums, various terms will have different meanings for different organisations. IMO, in the context of mobile and embedded systems, interoperbility testing can include how any combination of mobile platforms, connected sensors, connected output devices, connected software systems and utilised communications mechanisms interact. Specific instances in any given situation will typically have a much narrower definition, e.g. does this application run on Windows Mobile 5 and Windows CE 2.1, or which codecs does the camera on this phone support, or can the phonebook on this PDA be synced with MS Office.
