what things should i know before starting the testing
plz help me!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: blackberry app testing
Mobile application testing is very different because you need to consider the hardware and middleware. What I mean by this is how the hardware & software interact with one another. Simulators can work to some extent, checking basic functionality but in the end you really do need the actual device to test with because you need to do system integration testing. I can't tell you how many times I ran into problems based on system testing rather than specific function or GUI testing. Mobile device testing does require us to think about the different kinds of tests necessary and it pushes you to really go beyond thinking GUI. As an example, do you ever think about CPU speed when doing web testing? What about storage limitations? What about memory usage while performing a specific task? How does the memory usage affect the CPU speed?
Sure you do memory and storage tests in web testing but in a device, you really need to see how the device performs while in "normal use" and under extreme conditions which are not as straightforward as with web testing.
One of the biggest challenges I had was when the device was charging and the the GUI was being used. You cannot simulate the real software behavior's reaction when the device is charging. I ran into heating problems, database corruptions, cell modems shutting off or worse damaged, CPU running so fast that it generated more heat than normal, all of which you cannot simulate. In my case, I was testing a heart monitor which was communicating heart data to an ananlysis server where my testing was critical. But that doesn't mean other testing is not critical too because in the end, it's about your company putting out a profitable product.
Here are some suggested links within this forum and my strong recommendation to you is to search this forum for some ideas. We've shared so much from hardware/middleware/software integration testing, to automating tests on mobile phones and other devices to using simulators for testing.
