TP... from Access to Oracle
I'd like to get your input to this:
We currently have our TP database in Access, and there are only 5 or 6 script writers currently working. We're planning on rolling out TP to approximately 50 users, and we're wondering if going to Oracle would be a good idea.
Are there any drawbacks (as well as advantages) in moving our TP database to Oracle?
Re: TP... from Access to Oracle
the fact that you have more than one person using TP on access today is presenting a risk. It's only intended to be a single user db, a limitation of Access not TP. So you need to go to either SQL or Oracle to remove the risk of corrupting your db. My suggestion is this..
Go through your existing DB and delete any old asset versions. The more junk you have in there the longer it will take for the conversion. This is true for all assets, especially logs. Don't forget to use the DB Maint to compact the db when done.
read the existing install doc on using TP with oracle and/or upgrading to oracle.
Check Frontline, and maybe even open a call with tech support looking for any gotchas or white papers they might have.
Back up your access db, then use the DB Maint util to "copy" to access db to an oracle.
Note: I hope that all 50 of those users are on the LAN... performance over a WAN is not good.
