Any tips for digging information out of a raw file... readline and FSO is what I have been using ... it is tedious but still better than working with Adobe.
Any tips or tricks before I start this beast?
I am parsing it into variables for validation.
I have done this a few times for different reasons... I want to compare the output of this flat file with the original input file before the job.
They are formatted differently.
If the file is in the 20k range or smaller, you're a lot better off
using the FSO ReadAll method rather than the ReadLine method.
You get the entire file in a buffer and parsing is a lot easier.
Just InString your way to the data that you're interested in.
Using the ReadLine, you just see a little bit at a time.
Using ReadAll, you see it all at once.
Look for some unique "landmarks" near the data that you are
interested in to make life easier.
P.S. When looking for stuff on a web page, I do a View ~ Source
and parse the notepad in one shot rather than grope thru a Web Page,
most of which you can't see.
