You'll have to play around with the CtrlText() function. Depending on the type of control you will use EditFind() or GridFind() to get the handle for CtrlText() function. I believe for a simple HTML table it will be the EditFind() function with the Index for control ID like "Edit~12" or whatever.
Var capText = CtrlText(EditFind("Edit~12"))
For java controls, the function is GetProperty() - check the documentation because depending on the app. the implementation is different. Something like
Var capText = GetProperty("Edit","Edit~12","Text)
