I am pretty new in testing. Please forgive me if I am asking too basic questions.
I am testing our Oracle app using QARun, but it does not recognize those objects using proper name. For example, we have couple text fields on one form, QARun will catch one of them as "$VTextArea14" sometimes, but the second time, it was identified as "$VTextArea7". This will definitely fail the replay. Does anyone know how to set it up to use proper object name?
Another question, how to identify the cells in a grid which pops data from the database? We know data changes. So what if you select a row which was #100 but changed to #102 after refresh?
Another post you mentioned looks like more for attached Windows, not for individual controls inside of it. But I did learn something new.
Just got some helps from Compuwere. They said because this is an Oracle app, to get the inividule control name instead of internal name, we have to set up 'control=names' Oracle parameter. I didn't do that in the first place because I don't want to effect other people who is using the same Oracle app instance. But that explains.
The second issue about the grid. They said I have to do some coding (using GetProperty??)in order to grab the right cell when the data keeps changing in the table.
For the control name issue, it is '?record=names' appended to the URL to load the app. This will only affect the instance of the application you are working on. There may be some server side setup item, I'm not sure, but it is otherwise transparent to users other than the instance on the PC where you load the application.
