Citrix & QARUN
We will be going to test our application residing on Citrix server with QARUn.
We manually test the application on our Windows system (client machine) but when I use QARUN(on the same client), recording doesn't work properly (no object recognition takes place). Please advise if this would be possible -
Citrix server ---> Application resides
Citrix Server ---> QARun will be installed
In the above case, will I be now able to record the application if both are installed on the Citrix server and I access both, application and QARUN on that Citrix server. If so, how do I start QARUN on the citrix server?
Thanks in advance!
Re: Citrix & QARUN
Let me describe the setup of the system I used- maybe that helps a little bit.
(User/Tester) -> [Home Machine] -> [Citrix Portal Server] -> [Test Machine]
Okay, I accessed the Citrix Portal Server from my Home Machine. This Server was configured to let me establish a standard remote access (e.g. with VNC) to the Test Machine. On the Test Machine QARun and the Software to be tested was installed. This setup worked fine but there were still a few Problems.
1. The Connection was quite slow and VNC slowed down everything. That was a thing I was not aware of before- I thought: "Okay, the Connection is slow- but on the Test machine the Tests will run on typical speed (I will not see every detail but on the hole everything will be performed like it was a standalone Machine)- That was wrong! I had to allow my tests more time between the actions"
2. We then tried to change from VNC to the standard remote tool that comes with Win XP. The access was okay- but when I tried to use QARun the system crashed (Maybe the options were not chosen well...)
On the hole I think you can definitely setup a system that fits your wishes, but you have to be careful when choosing a remote access tool for your task (first check if its working in your LAN environment- then there will be a good chance using I with Citrix successfully)
Re: Citrix & QARUN
I faced similar issue with testing a DOS based application published on a Citrix Server. Fortunately it was a simple GUI, so had the luxury of trying 2 ways.
1) Firstly - I did as you suggested - I installed/published QARun as an application on the Citrix server (using Publish Manager in Citrix Metaframe XP). This worked quite well - and I was able to recognise the applications objects OK. However, performance testing became part of my scope, and as QARun leaves its own footprint, AND this setup did not emulate the users environment - I was required to try it another way.
2)I installed QARun on my desktop machine which accessed the published AUT via Citrix ICA files. QARun worked OK this was but was unable to natively recognise the objects until I created object maps for them - after that it worked fine.
I have also load tested various VB applications using QALoad via Citrix and have a lot of documented information in this if you or anyone else is interested.
