FYI - STRING data type size and Change Request #
The following is response from Borland Technical Support to a support case I filed. Hope you find this useful...
I've finished consulting with R&D, and they do confirm that the 'too large to
access' error that you encountered when running SYS_GetRegistryValue() *is* a result
of the limitations of the STRING data type. A 4Test string can hold up to 16,383
characters, and in some cases the registry value is simply too large to be returned
as a string.
On R&D's recommendation, I've now logged a request for enhancement (RFE), requesting
that the string's range be expanded. The RFE is logged in the following change
CR 38733 -- 'RFE: request to expand range for the STRING data type.'
If you would ever like an update on this RFE, feel free to contact us and reference
the CR number.
