    Unable to connect to machine

    Hi,

I use SilkTest 5.0.3 and attempt to combine a remote computer over TCP/IP. But I receive error report following always:

*** Error: Unable to connect to machine 'TESTCLI3' -- Socket connection refused

    (WinNT4.0 with SP6, NW:Tokenring TCP/IP)

    thanks andall

Re: Unable to connect to machine

Whenever we get this problem, there are three important things to check first of all:
    - The agent is running on the target machine
    - The agent has had it's network setting enabled
    - You have set the network setting in silktest's runtime options.

If all of these are right, then it might be worth investigating whether the machine name you are workign with is correct; annoyingly, the name that the agent displays is not always correct - checking in Network Neighbourhood is always your best bet.

Re: Unable to connect to machine

Make sure you can ping the client machine. Also make sure you can ping it on the agent port:2965

If you cannot, make sure the networking is enabled on both Client and Host. Also make sure to reboot both machines since sometime it takes a reboot for a windows machine to discover that there's another near it.

Re: Unable to connect to machine

I'm having the same problem using the same code listed on this posting.

I made sure the following was set based on the suggestions:

    Runtime Options>Network>TCPIP
Runtime Options>Agent Name>Agent name I tried various things:
    blank, local, jjensen.empire.dxci.com
    I pinged jjensen.empire.dxci.com - OK
Agent is up on jjensen machine.

    Awaiting your tips.

    G

Re: Unable to connect to machine

The network option for the agent on the 'client' machine must be set.

Right click the agent and click on the Network menu item. Set the protocol to be used and optionally the agent name.

Re: Unable to connect to machine

    Hello TonyM,

I did have the network set to TCP/IP on the client. I neglected to mention it in my posting.

Let me know what else I can try. Thanks,

Re: Unable to connect to machine

Often test machines do not get entered in your network's DNS.
Try pinging it both by name and by IP address.

If it works by IP address, connect to it with the IP address, rather than the name:

    hMachine = Connect( "111.222.333.444" )

    Hi,
Well once I had this kind of problem
I had Different Versions of Silk Test for Agent and controller.
You might want to check the versions of agent and silk test.

Re: Unable to connect to machine

Both my agent and silk is version 5.0.2

Yes, I already tried/updated script to connect using "xxx.xx.x.xx"

The host and target machines are within the network and firewall. Only restrictions we have is outside coming in.

I've retyped my script using "xxx.xx.x.xx" AND variable name.

I've retyped the entire script (just in case I've got control char)

List of what I've tried to date:

    Host Machine:
    1) agent "local" and using "target machine name"
    2) network "tcp/ip (tried without it got another error)
    3) Connect ("jjensen.dxci.empire.com" and ("xxx.xx.x.xx")
    4) Used Connect with and without space
    Connect("target") and Connect ("target")

    Target Machine
    1) Agent is "local"
    2) Network is tcp/ip
    3) Agent is up

    Other:
    1) I also tried to connect to the host machine, to see if I can connect to myself and I got the same error "Socket connection refused.
    2) I also set up the script on jjensen machine to connect to QA001 machine (the host machine) and got the same error.

    3) Versions are the same for agent/silk 5.0.2

    Gurus, awaiting more tips.

Is there any other command I can try other than Connect ?

    Signed,

How about trying the SetUpMachine function?
It does issue a Connect call but, who knows?
