LOS ANGELES, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Borland Software Corp (BORL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) will cut about 8 percent of its work force, or about 90 employees, and close facilities in six locations as part of an ongoing restructuring plan, Borland said in a filing on Friday.
Borland said most of the cuts will come from locations in the United States and Europe. It sees related restructuring costs of $8 million to $10 million and expects to have its restructuring substantially complete in the second quarter of 2008. (Reporting by Lisa Baertlein)

Disaster for a lot of us yes, but I wouldn't go and change tools just yet .. :-) i dont think SilkTest is going away in the "near" future
Let's see...Segue had layoffs in 2000 and 2001, SilkTest is still around. Borland had a reduction in force when it acquired Segue, SilkTest is still around.
Keep in mind that Borland isn't only SilkTest. It isn't just what Segue used to be. It has many products, and many people. The press release does nothing to indicate which products are going to be affected. It says nothing except that there will be a 'restructuring' which can mean a lot of things. Considering when Borland acquired Segue and how much time has lapsed between then and now, I'd be more surprised if there wasn't a restructuring now that they've had some time to see what of the two companies works well together and what things might need to be changed to make things work better. I don't share the gloom and doom of the blog.
The layoff sucks, but none of the Silk team was affected. We are the strongest team in the company. And, I'd argue the only major player still focused on making test tools better for the practitioner.
Stay tuned for the NEW SilkTest (March 2008). We are introducing game changing capabilities (anybody see the sneak preview at StarWest or EuroStar?) We are more focused than ever on the quality products. We even have a new Silk family member cooking this year.
