Organizer is the way to go...

I would recommend you ALWAYS start from a .pln file because there are many features of Organizer that .s files don't have.

All you can do with .s files is to organize your test files. The problem with that is if you need to modify anything you have to go and comment out whaty yuu don't want. With Organizer you can do that with a simple query.

The way to start with Organizer is to write your test plan (what you want tested, manually or automated). You can then assign attributes to each test case whom you'd like to automate it, the category of test it is (functional, BAT: Basic Acceptance Test, GUI, Stress etc...) and while you're automating your test plan, you or your manager can monitor progress...

You can run a completion report every week and find out what the progress of your team is. This will give you a clear indication on when you expect your test plan to be completed. (if you have 1000 test cases that need automation, and your team finishes 100 per week, you need 10 weeks to finish development). You also can do charts on passed/failed test cases, and completed ones.

The last real cool feature of Organizer is the ability to run a query to mark a subset of your test cases. (Mark all the test cases that were written by Gilbert only, and run them) or (Mark all the Functional test cases that were not written by me) etc...

So you see it's a really powerful tool and generally speaking, I do not recommend NOT using it

Thanks AJ for your nice input!
I always use the Organizer (.pln) myself. Sometimes it's just hard to convince others to make them realize why it is a better way to go than sticking with the use of the test suites (.s). One major excuse, of course, is: another thing to learn...
