I work for a product based company, we are in a process of defining a framework for common test case for testing Installation for all products. All the products installers are build on Windows Install shield. As I am responsible of designing and developing the framework. I need to start working on the same.
I am looking forward to have a common frame file across all the products. Based on the input form the text file, drive the testing for a particular product.
I do not have any clue how to proceed can any one help me in moving further.
Thanks in advance.
It's very easy to have a common .inc file to use for several projects. You just need to declare common objects within this inc file and define your tag correctly. For example, if dialog captions on the installer from two different apps look like this:
Application A - Select a destination
Application B - Select a destination
your tag would be:
tag "*Select a destination"
Silktest will recognize the object on both apps.
I hope this helps, if it doesn't, you make need to go into a little more detail.
"Fox News gives you both sides of every story: the president's side, and the vice president's side."
Yeah, this is kind of an open-ended question so it's tough to answer.
Like jamesso mentions, is to make a common winclass (in one include file) that contains all the controls/methods/properties/variables that would be the same between all of the products installs. Then for each product derive from this class just overriding and adding to the areas that differ between each product.
