1) Definitely not. You could have the agent on either side, depending on what you are doing. You can use a previously mapped drive and dos copy (with sys_execute) to pull files from elsewhere. You can also push files in the same way. You can even do this to and from unix using pscp.exe (authentication with pageant.exe, if desired).
2) Call the dos dir command with sys_execute and parse the returned list of string, unless there is a builtin that I don't know about.
