Has anyone had to manage a SilkTest project Offshore?
I have 5 contractors that I'm setting up in India and I'm looking for feedback on how to handle their SilkTest licenses. It seems I have few choices:
1) Setup a license server in Mumbai.
2) Check out 5 licenses on an interim basis from my server.
Our QA Automation testers (30+) are in China and our license server(LS) is here in the UK; has been for the last 5 years. Our testers haven't reported any issues or problems, aside from when the UK LS drops out on a power outage, or is down for essential maintenance.
Looking closely at our LS logs, most of the traffic is general usage logging, and there's not really much of that TBH. Certainly not enough for us to justify moving it.
The decision probably rests on how likely your LS is to drop and how reliable your comms links are. If you have a sysadm in Mumbai who can do the routine license administration, I'd go for installing the LS there. If not, then running it from your server should/will work just fine.
