I would like to set the MFT extended attribute values for my Silk output (log) files so that it's easier for consumers of those files to distinguish between them. In particular, I'd like to be able to set the Comments and Keywords attributes. That way, users can expose those fields in Windows Explorer and use them to make quicker decisions about which log files have the correct contents. (This would be an alternative to having long, messy file names.)

I assume that there's some system DLL that exposes the functions for this, yet I can't find anything in the MSDN documentation. (I can read, but not set, the attributes using VBS, but I'd really like to be able to do this without calling an outside script.)

The only lead I've seen is to call one of the ID3 libraries available, but I think mgt. would frown on using libs downloaded from the Internet.

Anyone know how to do this?

Using ST 6.0.1 on XP SP1.
