    there is actually a really good discussion on this one in the 4Test documentation. Basically you would use this data type when you have "would be" enumerated data, that also fits into groupings (prevents you from using the OR operator basically). The example given is colors. You can declare RED, GREEN, BLUE, YELLOW, etc. then make further types that contain sets of the basic type, e.g. PRIMARYCOLORS. Hope this helps.
