    Data Driven Automation

Hello all again I'm new to tools and I have heard it is easy to automate by not hardcoding your data into your scripts, can someone show me how this can be done. Below is a sample of one of my scripts with data hardcoded, how can I take this data and put it in a spread sheet and call it from my script. Any help is much appreciated!!

    [ ] CaseMaster.JYACCmultitext7.TypeKeys ("C")
    [ ] CaseMaster.JYACCmultitext7.TypeKeys ("ASE")
    [ ] CaseMaster.JYACCmultitext7.TypeKeys ("M")
    [ ] CaseMaster.JYACCmultitext7.TypeKeys ("A")
    [ ] CaseMaster.JYACCmultitext7.TypeKeys ("STER")
    [ ] CaseMaster.JYACCmultitext7.TypeKeys ("<#1>")
    [ ] CaseMaster.JYACCmultitext7.TypeKeys ("<#0>")
    [ ] CaseMaster.JYACCmultitext7.TypeKeys ("<#1>")
    [ ] CaseMaster.JYACCmultitext7.TypeKeys ("<#5>")
    [ ] CaseMaster.JYACCmultitext7.TypeKeys ("<Tab>")
    [ ] CaseMaster.CustomWin("[JYACCmultitext]1 - -|$20").TypeKeys ("<#1>")
    [ ] CaseMaster.CustomWin("[JYACCmultitext]11- -|$20").TypeKeys ("<#1>")
    [ ] CaseMaster.CustomWin("[JYACCmultitext]11-2 -|$20").TypeKeys ("<#2>")
    [ ] CaseMaster.CustomWin("[JYACCmultitext]11-23-|$20").TypeKeys ("<#3>")
    [ ] CaseMaster.CustomWin("[JYACCmultitext]11-23-9|$20").TypeKeys ("<#9>")
    [ ] CaseMaster.CustomWin("[JYACCmultitext]11-23-99|$20").TypeKeys ("<#9>")

    Thanks

    Paul

    Re: Data Driven Automation

To be quick... look for reference on calling your testcase via a record.

    I.e.
testcase 124 (u123 XXRecord) appstate none
    dlg001.txt001.SetText (XXRecord.text)

in your include file, create something like
    type u123 is record
    STRING text

    LIST OF u123 l123 = {...}
    {"hello"}

The idea behind this is to pump a set of record into your testcase. The number of record.string are infinite.

    Re: Data Driven Automation

1st of all, you're doing this all wrong:

the 1st thing you need to do is declare your window in the window declaration include file.

2nd All I see here is your recording a script which is the tottaly incorrect way to do so.

In your CaseMaster window declaration, rename that object JYACCmultitext7 to Cell7 or something that makes sence

Then you can assign a variable
    integer iCount = 1015
    string sCellValue = "CASEMASTER"
    Now you can say:

sCellValue = sCellValue + str(iCount) // adds the number to the string
    CaseMaster.Cell7.TypeKeys (sCellValue)

So all you did can be reduced to 3 lines.
I would highly recommend taking a class.

I have several papers indexed on my website that describe how to do data driven testing.
