    Problems selecting from PopupList

I'm having problems with a HtmlPopupList that contains items grouped and separated by different labels. The Select() sets always a wrong item.

SilkTest shows just the list of items as content but it seems to be two different lists: the one with just selectable items and another with the selectable items plus the labels. The index never match.
    Has anyone experienced similar problems?

    Re: Problems selecting from PopupList

    Hi,
Have you tried to record select action for those radio buttons..? There you can find, how silk capture the objects and then you can decide which one is best (whether Index or associated label)...
    Thanks & Regards,
    Palani.

    Re: Problems selecting from PopupList

    Hi,
Yes SilkTest recognizes the control as HtmlPopupList and it is like:

    Family 1
    Item1
    Item2
    Family 2
    Item3
    Item4
    Family 3
    Item5
    ....
Where just the 'ItemX' are selectable from the list(none of them are radio buttons..). At selecting time the list seems to have more items than Silk can view...

    thanks for your answer

    Re: Problems selecting from PopupList

What is the pbm if you use "Family x", where x is a item, which you want.. First find whether that item exists or not, Before selecting particular item. If that item really exists then you can select particular item.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Palani.

    Re: Problems selecting from PopupList

    Hi Palani,

the problem is that if I want to select 'Item6' and this item is the #22 doing select() the item Silk selects can be the #19. If this item is one of type 'FamilyX', I get an exception. By UI the labels 'Family..' can't be selected... but Silk does it!
Besides this I can't select the last items of the list.

    thanks

    Re: Problems selecting from PopupList

I've had good success with popup lists in our app by: Right-click the mouse on the item. Release the mouse. Stuff down-arrow keys to get to the item I need. Stuff an Enter key.

Crude, but effective. Remember, in any decent app, there are almost always keyboard methods to do anything you can do with a mouse.

    Re: Problems selecting from PopupList

    Hi Dana,
ok, it seems the solution is to use the keyboard... it works but lots of lines have been added to my script in order to cover all cases (I need to select all items in the list, more than 50).
Which funtion should I use to right-click an item that is hidden at the end of the list?

    THANKS

Right-click an item that is hidden at the end of the list? Is it "at the end of the list" and just not visible, or is it "hidden"? If it's hidden, I have no idea. If it's just at the bottom of the list, off the screen, you can do a Select or ExposeItem to get the item to scroll into view.

    Re: Problems selecting from PopupList

I see...I was looking for a fast way to select an item in this 'special' HtmlPopupList but it seems to be hard...As you said I think I'm going to implement a crude but effective solution. One for each of one of these controls the application has!
Besides this after each item selection a change is detected and it appears a confirmation popup. Imagine what happens after each down-arrow. Uff

    regards

    Re: Problems selecting from PopupList

May be you can implement the changes at the class level, I mean you can override the Select function and selectively implement the work around. For all other normal controls you can use the default Select(). This way you need not change all your scripts, you need to only override the Select function of that control. If you want I can post some sample code.
