    SilkTest select wrong HtmlLink when using - if aaaaaaaaaaa.Exists ()

    I’m using an IF condition to test if the HtmlLink ‘QAOrg1’ exists. SilkTest can identify it without a problem if it does, indeed, exists. However, if it does not exists SilkTest selects the HtmlLink ‘Users’ and the testcase fails.

    I used Record Window Identifiers to determine how SilkTest identifies the HtmlLinks within the 2 scenarios:

    1. (QAOrg1 does not exist)
    Users
    Browser.BrowserChild("Application v4.0").HtmlLink("Users|#16|$http:??wmc1?Applicatio n?html?ad?ad.asp?class=container&name=C[5]")

    2. (QAOrg1 does exist)
    Users
    Browser.BrowserChild("Application v4.0").HtmlLink("Users|#17|$http:??wmc1?Applicatio n?html?ad?ad.asp?class=container&name=C[5]")

    QAOrg1
    Browser.BrowserChild("Applicationv 4.0").HtmlLink("QAOrg1|#15|$http:??wmc1?Applicatio n?html?ad?ad.asp?class=organizationalUn[3]")

    Does anyone know why SilkTest is selecting Users when QAOrg1 does not exists?

    Thanks!

    Can I assume you also have a ( == TRUE|FALSE ) as well in the if statement?

    No, I do not have a ( == TRUE|FALSE ). I'm not sure how I would use it.

    I simply have:

    if aaa.Exists ()
    perform this
    else
    perform this

    How would I use ( == TRUE|FALSE )?

    Thanks!

    Re: SilkTest select wrong HtmlLink when using - if aaaaaaaaaaa.Exists ()

    If you have created declarations using the tags shown above with labels User and QAOrg1, compile the test then go to Record Identifier.

    If the tags are correct, you should see the names User and QAOrg1, NOT the dynamic instances presented above. (While you're here, run the cursor over other HtmlLinks on this page too; the ones that Silk recognizes may not be the ones ones you declared.)

    If the dynamics persist, start deleting the duplicated multitag 'chaff' from the right end of each tag. I'd suggest deleting all the way back to the #15 #17, and #16 values, to start.

    Re: SilkTest select wrong HtmlLink when using - if aaaaaaaaaaa.Exists ()

    Thank you, John!

    SilkTest can now identify QAOrg1 in both scenarios and is not confusing it with Users.

    Your direction has already helped me on another testcase.

    I think you have saved me hours of work (research).

    Thanks again,

    Blanca

    Re: SilkTest select wrong HtmlLink when using - if aaaaaaaaaaa.Exists ()

    Hi,
    I have a little problem my self with the test tool and that is the following. I have been using Winrunner for scripting but I am going for an interview that requires silk testing background. I am sure that given a chance I will be able to perform a super job but can some one tell me where I can get more info on silk tools. Need some books or reading material off the web. The website of the company have nor been of any help. Plase reply to me at: niazmalik@myway.com
    Thanks
