    SilkTest Not Getting Started

    Hi All,
We've a floating license for SilkTest. SilkTest is installed in the client machine without any problems. While running it, it flags the error...

    "Client couldn't connect the server"
Note: I've pointed the correct server.

Suggestions and solutions in this regard is very much appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Hi,
    Some more questions to you.

    1. Which version of Silktest, you have?
    2. Have you verified testconnection with Silk Meter=> Client Admin Tool? Have you checked whether smHost and smConfig is running?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Palani.

    Re: SilkTest Not Getting Started

    Hi Palani,
    1. SilkTest 6.5
    2. Frankly telling, I've no idea regarding this, since we don't have the SilkTest server in our environment.

I was working with SilkTest in the same way for the past two months. The problem is only in one machine. Even now, it works without any problem in some other machine.

Problematic Machine Config: Windows XP Prof. Edition, SilkTest 6.5, IE 6.0

I couldn't understand where the problem is, since the same is running in some other machine with the same config.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Hey,
Have you tried connecting to the server through Windows Explorer? Maybe the problem machine can't access the server at all.

    Re: SilkTest Not Getting Started

    Yeah Brendan,
Using "smadmin.exe", I've tested to connect with the Server. But it results "The communication with the License Server Failed".
But if I ping the server, it can connect with the server.

    What could be the problem?

    TIA,

    Re: SilkTest Not Getting Started

    Hi,
Go to Start==> Programs=> SilkMeter 2.5 RunTime=> Client Admin Tool. Verify your license server IP and port (mostly default-5461). Apply if you need any change. Then try Test Connection. Also read silktest6.5 License FAQ from segue's customer site.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Palani.

    Re: SilkTest Not Getting Started

On the client machine, look at your SilkTest install path. I'll assume C:\Program Files\Segue\. In that Secue path, look for a folder called \cfg. In there you should find four files.

    CosLicensingService.ref
    CosPropertyService.ref
    ls_segue.ref
    silkmeter.cfg

These are placed there during licensing configuration at setup time. Open these files in some texteditor. Make a comparison of the contents of these files with the very same files on a client machine that CAN connect to the licensing server.

I've solved this exact problem in the past by literally copying these four files from the working machine to the non-working one. Sure enough it was "magically" able to connect and retrieve a license.

    Re: SilkTest Not Getting Started

Iíve had this problem in past and the only way Iíve been able to resolve it is to hard code the IP address of the server into the hosts file on the workstation that cannot connect. The host file lives in:

    x:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Open it with notepad and key in the IP address and the fully qualified server name. Example

    11.1.1.11 ServerName.Company.com

    Good Luck!
