Command line install of PEM files?

    Hi,

Does anyone know a way of installing PEM files (for SSL certificates) via the command line? I would like to avoid automating the process of navigating through all those dialogs in IE.

Re: Command line install of PEM files?

    Hi,
I already implemented your scenario. You can create a link for your PEM file and Start that link. You will get Certificate Import Wizard and you can proceed further.

I tried to use CRYPT32.dll. But I couldn't create required user-defined Types. You can have a view at MSDN Help - CryptRegisterOIDInfo. It may useful to you..
    Thanks & Regards,
    Palani.

Re: Command line install of PEM files?

    Hi Palani,

I tried making a shortcut to a certificate IRServerCert.pem (seems to be part of the SilkTest install). When I double click the shortcut, I get the "Windows cannot open this file" and have the option to pick an app to use, etc. I tried using win2ksp3. Which OS were you using? Do you another way to start the Certificate Import Wizard?

    Thanks for the tip.

    Another (non-GUI) way:

    certmgr /add /c /v whatever.pem /s /r localMachine root

Make sure you have certmgr.exe on your machine or get it from MS.

Re: Command line install of PEM files?

    Chris,
Thanks for the info. I'm not having certmgr utility. I have to get...

Have you tried manually that scenario as per my post? Or did you try manually double-click particular *.pem file..? In both ways, it should open Certificate Import Wizard. Otherwise you have to set the settings in IE or Windows Explorer. Anyway now you got it.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Palani.

Re: Command line install of PEM files?

    Palani,

Try running certmgr.msc from the run dialog. It is a GUI version of certmgr.exe that is probably on your machine.

I couldn't get your method to work because I couldn't figure out how to get an association between pem files and the Cert Wizard.

Your tip lead me to an acceptable solution. Thanks again.
