    Re: number of browsers

Open up three browsers on the same machine....sure

Perform actions on all 3 at the same time?...no

SilkTest uses the mouse and the keyboard in a similar way that a user does. A user can't do things in 3 windows at the same time, so SilkTest can't either.

You could use SilkTest to coordinate the simulataneous action on 3 different machines however. All that you'd need is an Agent on 2 machines and SilkTest on the third machine.

    Re: number of browsers

Thank you for your quick reply. Does that mean that if I want to simulate 10 users, I need 9 agents on 9 machines and Silk Test on the 10th machine to simulate the load of 10 users.

    Thank you

    Re: number of browsers

    Hi Rams,

James is right and u can simulate 10 users with 9 agents and 9 machines and Silktest on the 10th machine.

But if u really want to do some kind of Load testing then u shud be backing on something like Silk Performer and not Silk Test.

Silk Performer will allow u to simulate a load of 10 (or more users) from one machine.

Nevertheless if u do want it to be done thru SilkTest - it can be done. Check up for "spawn" in the Help file.

    Cheers!

    Re: number of browsers

Using SilkPerformer is a good suggestion. But, ocassionally, it just does not work for some applications. For one of our projects, SP does not work. We had to use SilkTest.

One thing I would say here is that you can use one controller for any number of agents therotically. But, in our case, it was never successful for more than a dozen or so agents.

If you are trying to use 10 agents, you may be OK. If you try 20 agents, there may be high possiblity that some of the agents will fail early in the script.

    Re: number of browsers

I've used over 50 agents at the same time....
If you are going to be using a large number of agents at that same time though, I recommend using the controller machine to only control other machines, and make sure that the machine has a lot of memory and a very good NIC card (or two).

If you are just looking at load testing a browser-based or java application though, SilkPerformer is the way to go. It will take you less hardware, less time, and the reporting capabilities are more suited to this kind of activity than SilkTest's reporting.

If cost is an issue or if this type of testing isn't done often, you may want to consider using a service to do the load testing you want without having to buy the tool (send me an e-mail for more info).
