    Testing AS-400

I used SilkTest mostly for Web and Client/Server applications. Can any one give me some guide lines how to test AS-400
    database, reports, etc.

    Ahmed,

Had to do a lot of this at Wall Data and Attachmate. Bottom line is that Silk can't see the green screens. Now, if you need to do datastream validation, you can use BlueExpress which is Segues repackaged terminal emulator from Wall Data. It's the Rumba emulator. However, if you have your own emulator that you want to verify the functionality of, you're likely not going to get there.

Now, on the other side of this, some of my co-workers used SilkTest in combination with HLLAPI to do their verifications. I did not get involved in this personally, but know they had a significant measure of success with it.

Also, the most recent emulator I tested was written in Java and I was able to get a good amount of data from that using the RecordClass option in Silk. If the developers know what you need, they can expose some methods for you to extract the data you need.

Good luck! It's not a fun road to test on, but it's extremely gratifying when you get it to work.

    Hello DJGray

Thank you for your response. I too was investigating about the "Blue Express Agent".

Blue Express is a Rhumba terminal emulator that SilkTest integrates with. SilkTest sees objects (TextFields, StaticText, ect.) in the emulator unlike other emulators. It works pretty well. For other emulators you have to rely on the clipboard and API's to get where you are going. I have sample code for both if you are interested drop me an e-mail.
