    Internet explorer crashes randomly.

    I have a Win2000 machine with IE 5.5 and silk test 5.5.
The settings done for extension enabler is IE Virtual object .
IE crashes randomly whenever I run my scripts. Last time it crashed after 2 iterations. Later it crashed after 94 iterations. Just now it crashed after 19 iterations.

    It displays the following error

Microsoft Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
Can anyone please help me on this? I tried doing this on 3 different machines. It crashed everywhere.

You should try using the DOM extension instead.

I'm running exact same revs and occasionally see random crashes running DOM as well.

Which Silk service pack are you using? I used to have a lot of trouble with IE crashing, especially after upgrading to a Win2000 machine; upgrading to ST5.5 SP3 pretty much solved it. I've had only a couple of crashes in several months. (Caveats: I use IE6 and the DOM extension; and upgrading to SP3 did create a certain number of other problems.)

    Re: Internet explorer crashes randomly.

I'm using Silk 5.5 SP1. SP3 caused me too much grief so had to back down. I haven't found 6.0 to be stable enough to make the move there yet either for Html.

    Re: Internet explorer crashes randomly.

I have seen this same problem. However, it was always happening after closing my browser and opening a new one. This happens because my appstate makes sure no browsers are open before it starts executing the testcase. If I am executing multiple testcases it has to close and open before executing the next one.

In order to get rid of the ID crash error I put a sleep(4) at the end of my appstate. This will force Silk Test to wait 4 seconds before opening the browser again.

Since this was added I have not seen the problem. I did not like that fact that I had to wait for 4 seconds to run the next testcase but it beats having failed tests to go through.

Let us know if you find a resolution.

The crash to the explorer - may mean there is a memory leakage somewhere...

    Also other possible culprits:
    - Calls to multiple threads of explorer
    - 32 bit versions (unlikely in Win2000)

    Re: Internet explorer crashes randomly.

As a matter of fact, when our application on explorer started crashing, we submitted it as a bug to developer - the issue was not how many iteration, but the issue was application's ability to handle multiple executions.

Communicating the behaviour to developer would be a better bet... I get the hunch that Silk has nothing to do with it.
