    Starting a process on a remote machine using DCOM

    this is a continuation of thread: http://www.qaforums.com/Forum1/HTML/004371.html

    Here is what you need to do to launch a process remotely using windows script host:

    make the following registry entries on both the machines:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings

    "Enabled"=1
    "Remote"=1

    keep the following script on host machine from where you want to start the process on a remote machine:

    put the batch file test.bat on target machine in c drive and run remote.js from host machine by double clicking on it. this will launch the batch file on target machine.

    Re: Starting a process on a remote machine using DCOM

    make sure that you have dcom enabled for
    WSHRemote

    click on start select run
    in Run dialog type "dcomcnfg"

    this will open DCOM Configutaion Properties dialog, from the Applications tab select WSHRemote now go to Default properties tab and check "Enable DCOM on this computer" and click on the OK button of dialog. do this on both the machines.

    this should solve your problem in all probability

    Re: Starting a process on a remote machine using DCOM

    its great it works but...!

    When the batch file gets launched it runs in background and silk also runs in background is it possible to get it to in in forground because if silk runs in background then its of very little use.

    Re: Starting a process on a remote machine using DCOM

    good one !
    I my self had struggled with that in the past. sorry for not mentioning it earlier.

    do following three things:

    modify the first script remote.js as follows:
    ----------------------------------
    put the following in another script test.js and keep both of thesescripts on host machine all you need on target machine is YOUR BATCH FILE which will start silk
    -----------------------------------------
    now go to DCOM configutation dialog by typing dcomcnfg on command line

    from application tab where there is a list of all the application select WSHRemote and click on the properties button this will open WSHRemote properties dialog, in this dialog go to identity tab and select the INTERACTIVE USER OPTION BUTTON

    click OK close all dialogs and try the script

    let me know send me an email at jbarlinge@yahoo.com if you have any problems
