email thru outlook from dosprompt

Hi,
I did see differnt postings regarding email. But I couldn't get answer out of him.
If we used gbmail.exe, but with this if I send any attatchment, it is being displayed in body of the mail, but not as an attatchment.

Are there any command line statement for doing this using MS-Outlook. If not, are there any other options..

Thanks,

I seem to remember something like this coming up a while back and I believe the answer was to use smtp.

Fred,
Can you be little more specific. Is it using different scripting language or creating our own email client.
Thanks,

Is it mandatory that you use Outlook? Or are you just wanting to find some way to have Silk send email?

I use Blat to send email via Silk and it works beautifully.

For fun, I have a little script that uses a command prompt and SMTP Command Syntax to email. It was designed to automatically email out a failure report, but I didn't implement it.

The design is for Windows and it goes like this:
1.Open DOS prompt, telnet port 25 of the mail server
2.Send a message using SMTP command syntax
3.Quit Telnet, then close the DOS prompt.

If you know SMTP command syntax it is quite simple.

Use the blat.exe command line emailer found here: http://www.interlog.com/~tcharron/blat.html

It lets you send attachments as the body or as a real binary or text attachment.

We use it here to send out automated test result logs and report status of pass / fail.

It's easy to write a wrapper around this tool in SilkTest or in our case Perl.

Re: email thru outlook from dosprompt

styler:
I'm trying to use blat inside of ScriptExit() to email the results file to myself. I get the email but the content is gibberish.

here's the line:
SYS_Execute("C:\downloads\blat mailer\blat c:\temp\t.res -t me@viewstar.com -s ""test message""")
Where t.t is the name of the script.

Is there some way to force blat to attch the file. rather than including it as text? Or is the problem that the .res file isn't there/ completed when the script is in the ScriptExit() function?

<edit> Or does someone have a way to do this that doesn't involve installing anything other than blat?

Re: email thru outlook from dosprompt

You've got to use the -attach switch to attach the .res as a binary file.

The 1st argument for blat for the body of the email, that's why you're seeing junk

Use a body.txt file with contents like "Attached are the SilkTest regression test results".

Here's a modified line for you to try:
SYS_Execute("C:\downloads\blat mailer\blat body.txt -attach c:\temp\t.res -t me@viewstar.com -s ""test message""")

Re: email thru outlook from dosprompt

What I do is start up Silk using the command line in a batch file, telling Silk to exit and export a .REX file when complete.

From the batch file I then use blat to send an email that has a parsed version of the .REX file in the body.

Makes sense. I'll have to figure out if a .REX file will work for us.

Thanks a bunch for your help.
