SilkTest 6.0 does not set DefaultBaseState for IE 6.0

] *** DefaultBaseState is invoking Browser
[ ] *** Error: Unable to start Internet Explorer 6 DOM
    [ ] Occurred in AppError
    [ ] Called from Explorer.Invoke at extend\explorer.inc(470)
    [ ] Called from Browser.Invoke at browser.inc(361)
    [ ] Called from DefaultBaseState at defaults.inc(126)
    [ ] Called from main at $ScriptMain(2)

This happens when I record a testcase with DefaultBaseState. I had
silkTest 5.0.3 installed in my computer then I installed silktest 6.0 in a
different directory without uninstalling 5.0.3. Now, SilkTest 6.0 does not
set up DefultBaseState for IE 6.0. Even after I uninstalled both versions
and then installed 6.0 but it still does not work.

    System Setup:
    Windows xp platform.
    Iternet Explorer 6.0 with SP2

    SilkI Setup:
    Option->runtime has IE 6.0 DOM
Options->Extensions has IE 6.0 DOM enabled
Outside Extension Enabler has IE 6.0 DOM enabled

When I click Record->testcase with DefaultBaseState, I can see that it can invoke the browser because a
browser window is launched. But when it should bring up the "Record Status" window, it pops up the following error:

"An Error occurred when setting up the application state DefaultBaseState"

When I right clicked on Agent->Extenstion->Details I see lots of domex.dll
    is loaded.

Any help on how I should fix this problem without rebuilding my computer would be greatly appreciated.

Re: SilkTest 6.0 does not set DefaultBaseState for IE 6.0

You note that the Extensions are enabled under the Runtime options -- what about the Agent? You need to check that the Agent has the same extensions (IE 6 DOM) enabled.

If that doesn't do the trick ...

Much as I hate to say it ... RTFM for SilkTest 6.0 Installation.

It clearly states that you MUST uninstall prior versions of the product. In fact, if memory serves, you need to uninstall every time you install a newer version of the product.

Silk uses several "system" DLLs which are "in use" anytime WinX is running -- if you fail to uninstall, you will almost certainly get a mixture of "old" and "new" DLLs, after which the product behavior will be indeterminate.

I see that you did do the uninstalls AFTER your initial attempt, but you don't mention whether you ensured that the system (and the registry) were "clean" before attempting to reinstall.

Personally, I'd start there. Uninstall both versions. Check that there are no Silk / Segue entries in the registry (I believe that Segue support has a "support note" that describes what to look for). Scan your system for "qa*" DLLs and make sure there are none. Reboot frequently with vigor < grin > during this process ...

Then, give the install another try.

Re: SilkTest 6.0 does not set DefaultBaseState for IE 6.0

I've seen the same problem, but in Silk 5.5 sp3. I have the IE 6 extensions enabled for Partner and the Agent. I rebooted. Silk will actually invoke IE 6 just fine, but it doesn't recognize it so it throws an error.

    Any solution to this?

Re: SilkTest 6.0 does not set DefaultBaseState for IE 6.0

I have been in contact with Segue Support People. So far they were not able to provide me any solution. It seems like a bug in SilkTest 6.0.

If you find any solution, please post it on this site. I am kind of stuck with my automation.

Do you have .to or .ino file? Try to delete them.

Re: SilkTest 6.0 does not set DefaultBaseState for IE 6.0

Found a workaround: On windows xp I logged in as an Administrator (a user id xp creates by default, I guess) and I was able setup DefaultBaseState using SilkTest 6.0 for IE 6.0.

It seems like in my current user profile, there is some conflict with SilkTest 6.0. So, it could not setup the DefaultBaseState for IE6.0

If you encounter the same problem I had, you can create a new user and then run SilkTest 6.0 with IE 6.0, it should work with IE 6.0 and setup the DefaultBaseState.
