I am a novice to SilkTest. We are exploring if SilkTest can help us in automation effort. We wish to automate a JSP based Web-Application. This app generates report in CSV/PDF format based on filter criterion specified on web-page. And we need to verify content of these reports generated at run-time in PDF/CSV.
Do u feel it's possible? How do we verify? Roadblock I see is that we need to deal with Browser (JSP web-page) and Windows(CSV format reports). Any pointers are welcome.
We sort of do the same thing but with out JSP.
The way you should handle is that
(1)let ST interact with gui to generate these reports in csv or pdf format.
(2)verify to see if the content is correct manually (This is a one time process)then make them baselines.
(3)Next time when reports are generated by automation compare csv file using ST file comparision function.
As far as PDF comparision you 'd need a licence to enable PDF comparision feature. Or you can also convert PDF into text file and then do your comparision. This functionality requires the installation of a tool from Adobe.
Hope this will help
If you do what Styler says about pasting the text into Notepad, then you won't need a baseline file at all. Put all the stuff you want to verify under the VerifyProperties method under the textfield, such as:
