After upgrade from ST5.5 to ST6 license issue

    Hi guys,

After upgrading from ST5.5 to 6 I get:

    SilkMeter Message

    No License for 'Silktest_GUI6.0'
ErrorMessage: No policy available for this product.
    ErrorCode: 101

I notified customer support but no working solution yet!

I didn't change anything on my client machine nor on the license server.

    Any ideeas ?
    Thxs in advance,
    Liviu Pop.

From other posts here, (I haven't upgraded yet), it appears that you need a new license policy for Silk 6.0.

Without it, you'll get the error you see -- it hasn't got a policy for 6.0.

Re: After upgrade from ST5.5 to ST6 license issue

we had to e-mail license@segue.com giving them the Host ID of our license server machine and our Customer ID.
They then sent us the new policy. I don't think you can generate a 6.0 license online.
You can then import the new 6.0 policy along side your old 5.5 policy
Maybe you just generated another 5.5 license...?

Re: After upgrade from ST5.5 to ST6 license issue

The first day that SilkTest 6.0 was available, I was able to generate "6.0" license policies from the Segue web site. Then, I was able to import the policy and run SilkTest 6.0 without a problem. Our only problem was that Segue did not have the same number of "6.0" licenses available as the number of "5.5" licenses that we already had configured. A call to the Licensing Support group fixed this issue.

Re: After upgrade from ST5.5 to ST6 license issue

I wonder why we couldn't, then...?
When I phoned up Segue after failing to generate a license online we were explicitly told we had to email them for it.
They sent the policies back straight away.
It's not as though we had moved our license server or anything...? Strange.

The procedure should look something like this:

Find and run the program silkmeter_hostinfo.exe on your machine which holds the licenses and runs at the SilkMeter License Server. Run this from a command prompt (DOS Box) and it will return you a "host ID."

Go to the Segue site and generate a new License. You will need to have a maintenance agreement in place with Segue for this to happen. Thus you will have a customer name and password (number), and then also a specific code-word that Segue has used to identify you. I don't recall what they call this.

Anyway, once you have logged in with those three pieces of information, you will see a dialog that tells you exactly how many licenses you have waiting for you and you can generate the policy file right there online. It will ask you for the host ID you generated from the command prompt with the silkmeter_hostinfo.exe app. The policy file will be generated and emailed to you either as the text of the email, or as an attachment.

Take that <filename.pol> policy file and lock it up in a safe! Actually you fire up the SilkMeter Admin application select Import and point it to that policy file.

That should take care of it for you.

Re: After upgrade from ST5.5 to ST6 license issue

    Thxs guys!

But this is what I did. The new smHostinfo.exe program that Segue provides gives a different value every time it is run on this machine. Further, I did go to their site and used the old HostID that worked under SilkMeter 2.3.5 to generate my SilkTest 6.0 licenses and had those sent to me as an attachment.

When I try to import those new policy files, the software gives no errors, however no policy shows up, as if the host ID is incorrect. Segue has indicated they are re-issuing policies based on the hostname, not the ID, however we haven't received them yet.
