Yes you do need a new license. I don't know if older versions will work with the new license.

It is not backward compatible. You 'll have to chose between 5.5 and 6.0 to run per license.
Bad idea..(sounds like someone from marketing came up with this brilliant thought)

That's pretty bad. I generally like to run my suite of tests on a new version before having everyone upgrade.

    Re: License for SilkTest_6.0

    How do you mean choose...?
I imported the new policy for 6.0 which now exists along side the policy for 5.5. Each policy has two licenses.
I can start up 6.0, and across the office I can start up 5.5 on another machine with no problem.
    Perhaps, I'm missing something...?

I think I'm talking at cross purposes here.

This is what I did. I imported the new license and fired up 6.0 and ran some tests.
The other ST engineer was meanwhile still working on 5.5. When everything looks OK I will get him to upgrade too.

Let me ask you this, if you have ONE 5.x license that can run One 5.x client. If you upgrade and get 6.0, do you double your clients to TWO client?
    May be I am wrong.

And what if it's not all OK, and you need to keep 5.5, but you want some new feature of 6?

    Re: License for SilkTest_6.0

That's a different issue, and one which affects any new build of ST.
My point is, if all is not OK I can go back to 5.5 without having wasted the other engineers time. He will have been working away quite happily on 5.5 all the while.
