    User Fred Hubert (fhubert@skillsoft.com.nospam) posted:

I did a thorough evaluation of version 5.6 along with several other tools
because I started a new job and wanted to check the market before just
ordering SilkTest again. I like some of the features offered by QuickTest,
but I had to pass on it for the following reasons:
    * Not stable. It often crashed test scripts because it failed to find an
object it should interact with. I considered this a significant problem
because the test scenario was data driven and it had previously interacted
with the object on prior loops. Because the failure was inconsistent from
loop to loop and even object to object, I felt that I'd never be able to run
    true unattended scripts with it.
    * Un-shared object repositories. I don't like the repository thing much
anyway, but unshared is worse than handcuffs.
    * You take the fixed license price and multiply by 1.5 to get the floating
license price. Unacceptable in my opinion.
    * Add-ins are necessary, at extra cost, to cover multiple platforms and
    applications.
    * The programming language is setup to be procedural vs. OO - this was a
major mistake in my opinion. VBScript isn't the best OO language available,
but it could have been done quite well.

Don't get me wrong - I liked the product overall. The rapid turnaround time
and the integrated spreadsheet view for making test scripts data driven were
great features. Not to mention the fact that you don't have to record a
frame file separately from a script.

In the end, however, I was unable to risk my reputation and career banking
on the hopes that 6.0 would resolve ALL of these issues. Besides, SilkTest
6.0 is due out 11/12 and I know the current product is already superior.
The new version adds a lot of the cool features competing products have, so
    it was a no-brainer.

what are some of the features slated to be released in silktest 6.0??

one thing I have wanted for some time is some internal fuzzy logic to image comparisons. I find that alot of the time verification images are off by a couple pixels from OS to OS. It would be nice if the verification tool could just figure out that the image is shifted slightly and adjust.

It would also be nice if results files were not so difficult to work with.
