    SilkTest - Menu - Layers - DHTML

    Hi,

Iam a Silk newbie and trying to automate a GUI which has a menu bar similar to the menu bar at the top of http://dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex1/sm/index.htm

Now the problem Iam facing is that, SilkTest is able to properly identify the menu items (text) located on the navigation bar but is not able to identify the contents of each menu item. Instead, it identifies the object underneath the dropdown menu layer.

Can some one please help me do this the right way. I've searched the forums for a solution but the only post that seems to discuss a similar issue are @ http://www.qaforums.com/Forum1/HTML/000880.html
    and http://www.qaforums.com/Forum1/HTML/003865.html

Could someone kindly help me out with this.

    Thanks.

Re: SilkTest - Menu - Layers - DHTML

Are you looking at the black menubar across the top of the browser? Silk is seeing those, and the menu items underneath them as HtmlLink. Is that not what you are seeing?

What browser are you looking at? Are you using the DOM extension or VO?

If you are seeing these at HtmlLink as I am, then you can get a RECT on the to link, e.g. "Miscellaneous" and then hover the mouse over those rect coordinates which will expose the lower HtmlLinks at which point you can do an HtmlLink.Click().

Make sense? If not, please clarify a bit further what is happening on your end.

    Thanks DJ.
You are right. Silk does see that black menu bar BUT the menu items underneath them are seen as HtmlText and not HtmLink.

Iam using DOM. Since Iam not seeing them as HtmlLink's I don't know if I could use your solution.

Could you kindly show me the sample code of how to do it please ?

Hmmmm, Well, that strikes me as very odd. I'm using IE5.5 with the DOM extension and Silk is seeing the items on that menu bar as HtmlLinks.

I took a few declarations on your site and ran this test. It works for me seeing them as links. I've edited the commented block to be HtmlText. If you are seeing it as text, comment the "link" block and uncomment the "text" block and see if the test runs for you.

Great solution DJ. It works, Cool !!!

But I had to use the HtmlText block.
This forum is indeed a great help for learners.

    Thanks a ton.

Re: SilkTest - Menu - Layers - DHTML

    Hi,

I am testing an application which has a portal and when we access
it through browser. It displays some some links in a frame. When I use
Silk to record window declarations, the following observations were
    made:

    When I use IE5.5
    i) Using DOM: It does not recognise any link.
    It does not recognize them
    ii) Using Virtual Objects:
It records each and every link as "htmltext" and not "htmllink" as
    desired.

When I use Netscape, it shows all the links as one single "htmltext"
    component.

I tried to do a record cless but still it shows it a "htmltext" .

Please help me in resolving this issue, and let me know what additional
    settings need to be done.

    Thanks in advance.

    Rgds,
    Poonam

    That's intriguing.
Iam not an expert @ Silk and may be someone else could help you with your query but Iam just wondering since it recognizes the links as HtmlText - can't you use them for your task ?

Re: SilkTest - Menu - Layers - DHTML

No I need to use them as links. My test scripts have code for clicking on links etc, so unless Silk recognises them as links it won't work. Probably DJ can answer my q. but the e-mail is not available in the corresponding profile.
