    Agent hangs

    Hi,
    Agent hangs while recording and running. Becomes too slow in responding. Can anyone provide me any reasons why this may be happening.

    need more information.
    which kind of recording are you doing?
    are you testing web or client/server?
    have you compiled a lot of .inc files so that SilkTest has to resolve a lot of tags when recording?

    Hi,
    I am doing sample application notepad testing given with silktest. The minute i say record not just silk all other applications stops responding(too slow) and after some time .res file message ***ERROR :Agent not responding appears.

    Silk 5.0.3 is/was rather slow at recording. Newer releases work much faster. I'd suggest upgrading to 5.5 SP1 if you can.

    One solution to slow recording is to record verrry slooowly, that way you don't overrun Silk's ability to keep up.

    Sure this points directly to a problem which is machine related. Check the paging file size on your machine. What is the machine configuration that you are using ? Instead of using delays and reverting to using single (or few) application instances running you better zero in upon the original problem.

    One thing mentioned above caught my attention. In case of less free memory shutting down all other applications and then using SilkTest is surely an option but it should not be the case. I've used SilkTest 5.0.3 extensively and had never had problems with using multiple applications. The agent was also quite satisfactory in performance. Also I am (was ) unaware of SilkTest 5.0.3 agent's speed drawbacks.

    The first thing came to my mind is the free memeory on your client. Could you stop all other app except Silk and run this test case?

    testcase ttt() appstate none
    INTEGER iFreeMem = SYS_GetFreeMemory ()
    Print ("memory: {iFreeMem}")

    OK I'll pipe in... I gave this solution in a similar thread a few weeks ago. It has worked most of the time in the past with slow or hanging agents in SilkTest

    Try this. In NT run regedit and set the memory cache key "LargeSytemCache" to 1.
    I can't give the exact location in the reg, but it is in the current controll set somewhere. I usually do a search for LargeSystemCache and find it no problem. This has always greatly increased Silktest Performance in WindowsNT helps a little in Win2K but seems to have little effect in XP.

    The problem you are having is system related in conjunction with Silktest.
